Principal Clyde Braswell
Clyde Braswell, Principal of Washington Rose Elementary, is an incompetent leader and abuser of power.
In the 2018-2019 school year, Braswell was accused of misconduct by a parent after he visited her home. He was suspended from his duties while an investigation ensued. He was later allowed to return to the school under the most quiet of situations.
In late March of the 2020-2021 school year while during the height of the Covid 19 pandemic, Braswell allowed an African American teacher to put together a presentation for Black History Month with teachers showcasing various talents in order to produce a video to entertain the students. One performance included an African dance in which various teachers rehearsed after school and eventually performed for the camera to present to their students. Braswell allowed them to rehearse together and perform this dance which led to little distancing in the process. The result was that over 6 teachers who participated tested positive for Covid 19 and about 15 teachers overall had to quarantine as a direct result. The halls of the school were empty following that video recording due to the Covid virus outbreak. The students of those teachers had to present themselves to school remotely because their teachers could not attend in person. The families of these students were never informed of the crises even though the teachers returned to their classrooms to teach following these rehearsals. The teachers that were not affected and presented themselves in person were angry at the lack of leadership and poor judgement of this principal. Calls to the Superintendent went unanswered. Braswell put the lives of the teachers and students in jeopardy at a time when high numbers of people were dying from the Covid 19 virus.
As recently as November, 2021 there have been positive reported Covid 19 cases in Washington Rose. Each time, Principal Clyde Braswell informed the staff via email stating that, "While in school, students wore their masks the entire time in school; therefore, no one in the school community will have to quarantine." THIS IS UNTRUE! Students ALL eat in the cafeteria without distancing or partitions and do not wear masks while eating which occurs with the obvious action of mouths being opened. The students who tested positive for Covid 19 where indeed in contact with other students (and possibly teachers) in close proximity and without masks. NO ONE IS BEING REQUIRED TO QUARANTINE WHICH IS PUTTING MORE STUDENTS AND STAFF AT RISK!
We have already touched on Clyde Braswell's abuse of power in our section entitled NEPOTISM detailing some of the instances whereby Braswell afforded employment opportunities to those he knows personally even though they were not the most qualified by any stretch of the imagination. Some of those who benefitted from their personal relationship with Braswell were Paulette Fuller-Taylor, James Taylor (no relationship to Paulette Fuller-Taylor), and Rickita Jennings. (please read the blog page entitled Nepotism if you have not already done so).
As of November 30, Clyde Braswell has completed his ALL Black/African American leadership team assuring positions for his friends and excluding any Hispanic or Non-Black/African American teacher.
If you get hired to work in this district, let it be because no other options presented themselves to you at the time. Get teaching experience and look for opportunities elsewhere. Do not even wait to get tenured. This district is poorly run from top to bottom and there is a complete abuse of power and cronyism at all levels.
